Mural Sponsorship Raffles College of Design and Commerce
In September Chroma sponsored the creation of a fabulous mural at the Raffles College of Design and Commerce in North Sydney, Australia. Raffles is the oldest private design college in Australia The mural was a class project as part of the Certificate 4 in Art and Design program. This group, a second tier 2D Studies class, pooled their ideas and effort to create a dynamic mural on level 12 of the Raffles College building, situated at 99 Mount St., North Sydney.
The image is of a skull, rendered in a distorted pixilated style, was designed and painted on a 12 metre long corridor wall by students using paints donated by Chroma Australia. Our ample provision of quality acrylic paint allowed for a clear flat finish to what turned out to be an image of reds, blacks, pinks and greys on a large scale.
“I had trouble getting them started,” said Gordon Waters, the lecturer, “but in the end I think the result is quite striking and their effort was exemplary. The project gave them a chance to work on a large scale and see the possibilities of two dimensional imagery in a more public domain.” The mural was also photographed by the students and the images shown are without any digital correction or enhancement. The painting enlivens the common space with an energy that radiates into it, reflecting the students’ vitality.
These first year students will progress next year to the Bachelor of Design. Raffles is a private higher education provider delivering vocational courses specialising in design, visual communication and commerce. Their accredited programs, ranging from Masters Degrees through to Bachelor Degrees and Certificate courses, are eligible for Fee-Help
