Annual Reconciliation Walk and Festival- Mt Druitt
On Saturday the 22nd May, the Mt Druitt and District Reconciliation Group held their annual walk and festival to raise awareness of Australian Indigenous culture . This a very special annual event was held in Dawson Mall, followed by a walk through the local streets. Indigenous artist, Danny Eastwood, planned a design to which everyone on the day was encouraged to contribute with their own mark making, bringing the community together and celebrating the ethos of reconciliation.
This was the 14th annual event of its kind and provided an entertaining and informative“day out” for all. This year Community Services Cert IV students from Nirimba Tafe in Quakers Hill worked with the District Reconciliation Group, Mt Druitt City Council, Mt Druitt Police, and the NSWRC, to organise the Reconciliation Walk and concert. Prominent members from various community sectors attended as guest speakers. There were food stalls, cultural performances and a free sausage sizzle.
Community services students approached Chroma for help with materials to create the art work which truly brought everyone together. Chroma was proud to be of assistance to the reconciliation community with donations of Jo Sonja and Atelier Interactive paints. The canvas will be on display at …………
