Cambodian Children’s Art Exhibition in Europe
The Cambodian Children’s Painting Project is a grass roots initiative working with some of the country’s poorest children. The project is trying to create a brighter future for these kids through art and education.
In the northern hemisphere Spring and Summer of 2010, exhibitions will be held throughout Europe in 20 major cities to raise funds for the project. This is made possible with the support of volunteers who have come from all walks of life and different countries to help with the project.
Fund raising through the sale of the children’s work it is hoped will keep the CCPP’s doors open for the next few years. This is a reaction to the current economic climate which has significantly affected tourism numbers and donations.
CCPP is a project that was founded by committed local individuals. Its aim in working with underprivileged children living on the beaches in Sihanoukville, Cambodia is to improve the education and life prospects for these children living in impoverished households, orphaned or without consistent family support. Without the CCPP initiative they would be deprived of regular good nutrition, clean water, education and medical care, and are vulnerable to economically and sexually exploitative situations.
The project helps the children by connecting artistic expression to general education, and assists them to pursue formal schooling. It provides these children with the opportunity to develop their imaginative skills through artistic expression based mainly in painting. The sale of their paintings generates some basic income for themselves and for their family needs. It relies on volunteers to make the day-to-day running of the project possible.
In addition, sponsors and donors are also vitally important to keeping the Cambodian Children’s Painting Project’s doors open.Chroma provides regular support to CCPP with through donations of paint.
