Mitch Waite Tutorials

Mitch Waite is an artist and teacher, expert in painting techniques with Atelier Interactive acrylics and has run an art school in the South of France for the past 10 years. ‘Mitch Waite Tutorials’ is a brand new website providing downloadable painting tutorials; everything he has been teaching at his school made affordable and easily accessible - online.

The tutorials are all computer-based with interactive exercises, theoretical tutorials and video demonstrations. The interactive sections are very important to the learning process; it’s only by working through the exercises in a hands on way that your learning will take place. For example in ” you are challenged to find the eye level and vanishing points in a variety of different compositions. “Perspective Basic Principles".

The first few tutorials are available now and more will be added each month. The initial subjects will mainly focus on the fundamental principles of painting; composition, measuring, perspective, tonal values and colour. These are the basic skills that once understood and reasonably well mastered – set you free as a creative artist. Later tutorials will focus on advanced techniques, creativity and how to be more expressive. Learning how to paint requires exercising both this academic discipline and creative experimentation; too much discipline can be stifling whereas a lack of academic skill is highly restrictive.

The site includes some free demonstrations; these are not actually tutorials but just examples of demonstrations Mitch has given over the years at the painting school. The first video he ever made in 2004 was 30 seconds long; just to try out the video function of a small digital camera he was using. It was completely spontaneous and only a joke, plus the quality was terrible, but has been put on the site just for fun anyway:How to Draw a Mountain If only learning to paint was this simple! More recent and well directed videos are in oil, Trees in Sunlight and River Esterelle, where Mitch demonstrates how to get oil effects using Atelier Interactive Acrylics
