Cancer Council NSW, annual fundraising Shit Box Rally

Chroma Australia recently sponsored a team in the Shit Box Rally, an annual fund raising event for the Cancer Council of NSW. This is a community funded and focused charity which provides clinical and emotional support to those suffering this disease through the development of prevention strategies and research into new treatments and cures.

The rally commenced on 21st May. 109 teams registered this year , with 101 making it all the way to Darwin. Alex Turner and Andrew McLennan were sponsored by Chroma in a 1980s Mazda 323 which they bought for $400, calling their team ‘the Floating Eye Ball of Death’. Each team had to commit to raising at least $4000 to qualify to drive the course.

This year the route took from Brisbane to Darwin, a trip of over 5,000 kms. It was quite a journey driving their beat up, home modified and decorated old car for 8 days. They drove on pretty remote roads through some very isolated towns and communities and heads turned everywhere they went. However the adventure was well worth it and the guys really enjoyed being part of such an extremely challenging and rewarding trip and actually getting the car to Darwin!

They raised over $5,000 for the Cancer Council, with the Rally making just over $678,000 to date. It was a wonderful effort and great publicity for Chroma.

Stay tuned for 2012 - Melbourne to Cairns via Cameron's Corner!!!
