National Art School Awards Night
On December 1, 2011 the National Art School in Darlinghurst held their annual prize giving night in conjunction with the Undergraduate Degree show and Open Studios. Chroma has regularly sponsored a prize at the school for many years. This year’s winners were Matthew Busteed – Chroma painting Prize and Ryan Hoffman- Archival Oils prize.
The award ceremony went smoothly and had a refreshing simplicity and elegance. The opening address was made by the Premier, the Hon. Barry O’Farrell. Mr O’Farrell spoke about the NSW Government’s support for the arts and value of a visual arts education with the increasing importance industry places on creativity. There was a fabulous array of work from all disciplines on display in the National Art School Gallery and the open studios which family and friends were able to peruse whilst chatting and enjoying the fantastic balmy weather with a glass of beer or bubbly.
The NAS has formally thanked Chroma for their support and indicated that the prizes will have significant impact on the careers and practice of the two young artists. Both Ryan and Matt have applied to continue their studies at the National Art School by completing a year of Honours in 2012.
These photos taken on the night, give examples of Matt and Ryan’s engaging, prize winning body of work. Ryan's work examines the idea of Atomic Testing and combines installation with painting. It was a wonderful evening enjoyed by many students, teachers ,family and friends. Chroma looks forward to continuing and enriching our involvement with the National Art School in 2012.
