Travel from the UK to Geneva. There is a low cost option with easyJet from Liverpool. Alternatively, you can extend your holiday by driving or taking the train all the way. Transfer to Crans Montana from Geneva Airport: you can choose to take a scenic 2-hour train ride (cost approx. £60 - £80 return) or hire a car (economy cars start from around £200 for the week).
For those guests arriving by train, there will be a complimentary pick up from Sierre station. For all guests that have arrived before 1400 hrs Karen & Gary (the chalet owners) will provide a light lunch. In the afternoon, you will have the opportunity to take the self guided tour of Lens; an old village with historical buildings. This will give you an initial feel for your location.
There is also the option of a fairly steep walk up to the statue of Christ Roi. The walk takes about 25 minutes from the chalet. There are lots of benches on route, and it is well worth the effort. At the top you will have 360 degree views of Lens, the Rhône Valley & surrounding mountain scenery. Walking shoes are recommended but trainers should be ok.
This is a good opportunity for you to choose your location for painting tomorrow. It is also a good opportunity to take lots of photographs for future reference (you could be painting from these photographs for a long time to come). Please note: it will be a good idea to keep your camera with you at all times, the views are spectacular!!
Pre-dinner drinks and snacks from 1800 hrs. Your Artist for the week, Bob Hughes, will give a brief introductory session with discussions including the objectives, materials, and format for the week. This session will allow people to discuss their existing painting experience and style and to request any particular help and direction. For people with no painting experience, additional tuition and guidance will be provided.
Dinner at Chalet des Alpes.
